Helping students to look after others

Jun 8, 2016

Accountants and business advisors Whitley Stimpson has made a donation to the Blessed George Napier School at Banbury to help pay for its annual pilgrimage to Lourdes.

Martin Anson, director at Whitley Stimpson’s Banbury office explains: “So far thirty-one sixth form students have committed themselves to the trip. The youngsters fundraise all year and we are very pleased to help towards the cost of this visit. The students work hard helping the sick and disabled to get on and off the plane and when they are in Lourdes.

“The pupils will be in Lourdes for a week at half term and are accompanied by members of staff from the Catholic school.  They receive special training to help people in and out of wheelchairs and spend the week looking after the sick and disabled, including making meals and cleaning the accommodation.”

Blessed George Napier principal Fraser Long said: “It is heartening to see a business like this helping so much in the local community.”

Whitley Stimpson is ranked within the top 100 practices in the country, it is one of the largest independent accountancy firms spanning Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire and has developed an enviable reputation as one of the region’s leading providers of audit, accounting and financial advice to the education sector.

The company further supports the development of young people by taking part in the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) Higher Apprenticeships scheme, which is ideal for young people with A levels.  After successfully completing their higher apprenticeship the company continues to support them to complete their training to become fully qualified.

Martin said: “We are proud to be recognised as investors in education by the Oxfordshire Business Education Service.  We also sponsor more than 200 young people through Banbury Cricket Club’s coaching programme and our staff raise money for various community charities all year round.

“We are determined to support the communities in the Banbury, Bicester, High Wycombe and Witney areas, where we have offices and provide a full accountancy and business advisory service.”
