Charity golf day raises funds for local mental health charity

Sep 20, 2019

An annual golfing day, organised by the Bicester office of accountants Whitley Stimpson, has raised £1,000 for an Oxfordshire charity that specialises in helping people to recover from mental health illnesses.

Whitley Stimpson, which also has offices in Banbury, High Wycombe and Witney raised the money for Restore at their 27th annual golf day held last Friday at Frilford Heath Golf Club.

Restore is an Oxfordshire-based mental health charity that supports people in taking control of their recovery, developing skills and leading meaningful lives.

Each year Restore supports around 900 people across five sites in Oxfordshire to get back to paid employment, volunteering, and to participate in their community; to have a sense of purpose. In order to achieve this, Restore offer recovery programmes tailored to the needs of their members, such as employment coaching, training courses, and practical therapeutic work rehabilitation.

The event was attended by Claire Parsons, head of fundraising and communications for Restore, who was presented with a cheque for £1,000 made up from money raised on the day, along with a further contribution from Whitley Stimpson.

Claire said: “Restore relies on donations and fundraising events such as the Golf Day to enable us to continue our vital work, supporting people with mental ill-health to recover and get back to leading full lives.  Everything we do at Restore maintains our ethos of promoting self-worth, confidence and recovery from mental ill-health.

Stuart Haigh, director at Whitley Stimpson who also volunteers as the treasurer for Restore, said: “Our golfing day was a great success as always. Restore is a truly remarkable charity that does so much to transform the lives of people in such a positive way. We were thrilled to raise such a significant sum on the day to help support and develop Restore’s fantastic work in the future.”

Claire continues: “As a small local charity we aim to keep our overheads as low as possible so the funds raised from events such as this go towards the delivery of these services for our members. We are so grateful to everyone at Whitley Stimpson not only for their support, but for recognising that purpose plays a significant part in the recovery journey of our members.”
