Practice Accountant

Office: High Wycombe (occasional travel to other offices and client sites may be required)

Reporting to senior managers and directors with no direct reports.

To support managers and directors when providing professional accountancy services to fee-paying clients.

You will take responsibility for completing tasks within a general portfolio, providing a wide range of services. You will ensure the work is accurate and produced within deadlines. The services can include financial reporting, corporate taxation, personal taxation, and tax planning which will involve liaison and discussion with clients through email and face-to-face meetings. In addition, you will supervise more junior staff as well as prepare accounts for review.

  • Liaising with clients (individuals and businesses) and providing financial information and advice.
  • Producing year-end accounts.
  • Completing self-assessments and corporate tax returns.
  • Maintaining accounting records and preparing accounts and management information for small businesses (accountancy).
  • Supporting the company director’s clients.
  • Supporting and mentoring junior colleagues.
  • Looking at tax planning opportunities for current clients.
  • Supporting SME owners in the growth of their business through pro-active advice and guidance.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Qualified ACCA/ACA or QBE.
  • Demonstrated financial management experience.
  • Legislative compliance – ability to interpret and relevant legislation to clients.
  • Previous experience of working with clients in a busy accountancy practice.
  • Good knowledge of accounting systems e.g. Xero, QuickBooks, Sage.

Desirable:

  • Ideally, at least 3 years’ experience within a practice environment.
  • Coaching junior team members.
  • Microsoft office to at least intermediate level.
  • Knowledge of CCH.
  • Some auditing experience would be an advantage but is not essential.

Person profile

  • Ability to deliver a high-quality accountancy service to clients.
  • Strong but empathic communication skills.
  • Mobile and flexible to work in other Company offices and clients’ sites when applicable.
  • Good IT skills.
  • Ability to work without close supervision.
  • Good team player.
