Whitley Stimpson warns of bogus HMRC tax refund emails

Feb 4, 2020

Following the self-assessment filing deadline we are seeing another wave of scam emails claiming to be from HMRC and advising a repayment is due. The timing of these is very clever, hitting people’s inboxes at a time when many people will just have filed their returns, giving the impression they have been generated by the submission.

We therefore thought it appropriate to remind all our clients not to follow any instruction asking you to follow a link and/or give bank account details. Treat any such communications with the utmost caution and refer to us for advice. If you are due a repayment we can process this through our secure Agent’s online account.
