Describe what you do at Whitley Stimpson?

Having previously headed up the High Wycombe office, I took up the position of whole firm Managing Director in April 2017, where I oversee the smooth running of the firm, whilst still advising my key clients, many who have been friends now for years.

Why Whitley Stimpson?

Great people, great clients, great quality, great culture and great satisfaction.

My experience.

I have been a director for nearly 25 years, helping mostly SME enterprises grow and reach their aims, including several business sales and acquisitions along the way, where knowledge, skills and understanding the emotions of deals from both buyer and seller perspective is key. Like many of my clients, I also own my own business which adds to my understanding of the challenges they face. I'm also an RI for audit purposes, having done audits all my working life.

My undergraduate degree was in Politics, Philosophy and Economics, which as politicians will tell you, “helps one run the country”.  I also have an MBA from Reading University and an MA from Exeter University in Leadership, which adds to me as a person. Business requires all of these disciplines.

I recently graduated for the second time from Oxford University, so am technically (Oxon)2: most recently in the Faculty of Law doing another Master’s degree, specialising in taxation law. High-level tax planning is a huge requirement for our clients.

At firm wide level, it is people that matter to me – we have thousands of clients here at WS, and we can only delight them if we have happy and engaged people, with the knowledge and desire required to give clients confidence that we are their chosen advisor.

What matters to you?

Clients and my staff for the reasons above. We want to work together, be happy and get the job done.  My work/life balance is crucial and has been a bit skewed in the last couple of years by my academic desires, but having completed that, I have promised everyone that knows me, I won’t sit another exam again!  I think along with my professional exams, a BA and a few Master’s degrees, I’m done!

Ultimately, I want to come to work, be challenged and rewarded whilst I am here, and go home happy, and I want the same for everyone around me.
